SUMMARY:Yom HaShoah Vigil
DESCRIPTION:As anti-semitism continues to rise\, Holocaust awareness seems to decline and as the reality of the Shoah becomes more remote\, it is only by teaching and recounting the stories again and again can the unique nature of its evil be recognized\, its memory preserved and the vow of “Never Again” be kept. \nOnce again we will read aloud the names of Holocaust martyrs\, preceded by words of remembrance from our clergy\, the lighting of 6 memorial candles and a talk by Ariele Schwartz of 3G New York\, who speaks on behalf of that group at schools throughout the N.Y. metropolitan area to bring the personal nature of the Holocaust and its memory to young people through her own experiences and journey as the granddaughter of a survivor. Join us to read these names yourself. Stay to listen and reflect. Add names from your personal remembrances. Friends from throughout our community will attend with us to read the names of the Righteous Among The Nations. \nAnd as the names of those whose lives and futures were torn from our people and our world echo in our sanctuary\, join us … to Remember!

SUMMARY:Yom Hashoah
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Temple Beth El on Yom Hashoah for a moving and educational experience as we engage in the Butterfly Project — a call to action through education\, the arts\, and the creation of memorials. It teaches social justice through Holocaust lessons\, educating participants about the dangers of hate and intolerance to foster empathy and social responsibility. \nOn Sunday\, May 5 at 10:00 AM\, we will begin with a candlelighting ceremony\, followed by brunch (co-sponsored by the Men’s Club) featuring remarks from Rabbi Alan Bell. We will then participate in the Butterfly Project\, painting ceramic butterflies which will be displayed at Temple Beth El as symbols of resilience and hope. In this way\, we will remember the 1.5 million children who lost their lives during the Holocaust\, commemorate the 6 million who perished\, and honor all Holocaust survivors. Before the event\, we will have a minyan at 9:00 AM. \nSuggested donation: $18 per person \nJoin us to honor the victims of the Holocaust and commit to fighting against hate and intolerance in our world today. We look forward to seeing you at our Temple Beth El!
