ZISRAEL FELLOWSHIP NURTURES STRONG CONNECTIONS TO ISRAEL

Travel and other firsthand experiences help to build strong connections, and zIsrael Fellowship is a critical way that Federation connects teens in the Palm Beaches with the global Jewish community and people of Israel.

During winter break of 2019-2020, ten teens traveled to Israel as part of zIsrael Fellowship, Jewish Teen Initiative (JTI) and Israel Program Center’s yearlong program exploring Jewish identity, building leadership skills, and teaching about the relationships between Israel and her neighbors.

Trip highlights included creative ways for the teens to share different aspects of their Jewish identities, such as: spending Shabbat and Hanukkah in the homes of Israeli teens in our partnership region of TZAHAR (Tzfat, Hatzor HaGlilit and Rosh Pina), playing soccer and board games with recent Jewish immigrants from Ethiopia, trying their hand at street photography, learning about Israel’s tech innovations and visiting the Knesset to learn about Israel’s political system.

The zIsrael Fellows will continue their sessions through the 2019-2020 school year. They will have opportunities to learn about programs like Masa, Birthright, Hillel, Stand With Us and others that build Jewish identity and encourage a connection to Israel and its people
