Jewish Palm Beach mourns the passing of Sheila Engelstein^z”l, one of the founding leaders of our local community.

Over more than five decades in the Palm Beaches, Sheila and her late husband Alec^z”l were among the most significant leaders in expanding local Jewish life. They were at the forefront of building the infrastructure for what is today one of the largest and most vibrant Jewish communities in North America.

Sheila played key leadership roles with Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County and was an Honorary Trustee of our Board of Directors. The Engelsteins were among the earliest and most dedicated supporters of Alpert Jewish Family Service (JFS), Friedman Commission for Jewish Education (CJE), the Mandel JCC, Arthur I. Meyer Jewish Preparatory School, MorseLife Health System, and the Palm Beaches’ partnership with Israel’s TZAHAR region.
