{"id":2439,"date":"2017-10-13T12:19:10","date_gmt":"2017-10-13T16:19:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jewishpb.org\/fed\/?p=2439"},"modified":"2018-03-30T10:28:34","modified_gmt":"2018-03-30T14:28:34","slug":"camp-shalom","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jewishpb.org\/fed\/2017\/10\/13\/camp-shalom\/","title":{"rendered":"CAMP SHALOM PROMOTES TOLERANCE, ACCEPTANCE"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-family: ITCAvantGardeStd-Bk;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/jewishpalmbeach.org\/community\/feature\/Camp-Shalom.jpg\" alt=\"image\" width=\"955\" height=\"633\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-family: ITCAvantGardeStd-Bk;\">Federation\u2019s OneWorld: Davis Family Tolerance Project sponsored an incredible week of summer day camp for 50 children from the Max Fischer Boys\u00a0<span class=\"amp\">&amp;<\/span>\u00a0Girls Club and Marjorie Fischer Boys\u00a0<span class=\"amp\">&amp;<\/span>\u00a0Girls Club.<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: ITCAvantGardeStd-Bk;\">The kids from the Boys &amp; Girls Clubs joined 250 campers at Camp Shalom, a program of Federation\u2019s partner the Mandel JCC with locations in Palm Beach Gardens and Boynton Beach.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: ITCAvantGardeStd-Bk;\">From July 10-14, 2017, all 300 children participated in camp experiences such as sports, science, Israeli culture, drama and swimming, and they went on field trips to Lion Country Safari, Boomers and Flying Panda.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-family: ITCAvantGardeStd-Bk;\"><strong>Most of all, the program also provided all of the children with a greater understanding of communities they may not encounter very often.<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: ITCAvantGardeStd-Bk;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jewishpalmbeach.org\/images\/umbrella.jpg\" alt=\"image\" width=\"960\" height=\"720\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: ITCAvantGardeStd-Bk;\">The week was so impactful for some Camp Shalom campers, it inspired them to do\u00a0<em>tikkun olam<\/em>\u00a0(repairing the world) the weekend after camp ended. Campers Davin, Ayla, Jaden, Jenna, Bronson and Roman joined together for their first lemonade stand \u2013 and they donated a portion of their sales toward school supplies for the Boys &amp; Girls Club!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: ITCAvantGardeStd-Bk;\">OneWorld: Davis Family Tolerance Project is Federation\u2019s communitywide effort promoting tolerance, diversity and the Jewish value of\u00a0<em>chesed<\/em>\u00a0(\u201ckindness\u201d) through inspiring programs.
