Give back to your community this holiday season through one of Kohl Jewish Volunteer Center (Kohl JVC)’s most celebrated initiatives: 8 Days, 8 Ways of Giving. This November and December, choose from 8 in-person and 8 at-home volunteer opportunities to support people in need while strengthening the bond of our Jewish community.

 

8 DAYS OF GIVING WITH US

Thanksgiving Food Drive
Friday, November 14
8:30 – 10:30 a.m.

Join Kohl JVC, in partnership with J-TEEN at Mandel JCC and National Junior Honor Society students at Arthur I. Meyer Jewish Preparatory School, in honoring the Jewish value of Ha’achalat Re’evim (feeding the hungry) by helping to ensure that local families have a hearty, healthy and festive Thanksgiving meal.

What to donate? Frozen turkeys and non-perishable food are requested.
Donations will support Alpert Jewish Family Service, Place of Hope and The Soup Kitchen.

For every frozen turkey donated, Kohl JVC will donate another. That means your donation goes twice as far to help feed families this holiday season. Together, we can make an even greater difference — one turkey at a time.

2nd Annual Birds and Baskets

Bring the whole family as Kohl JVC teams up with PJ Library®, Temple Israel and Temple Beth El to honor the Jewish value of Kehillah (community) for a family mitzvah project that will provide Thanksgiving meals to local families in need. Register online by Friday, November 14, then shop with your family or loved ones using this shopping list.

Bring your donations with you to Temple Beth El on Sunday, November 23 between 10 a.m. – 12 p.m., where we will assemble and decorate Thanksgiving meal baskets.

Donations will support Alpert Jewish Family Service, Place of Hope and The Soup Kitchen.

During Birds & Baskets, you can also visit the Simon Wiesenthal Center’s Mobile Museums of Tolerance, the first mobile program dedicated to combating antisemitism, racism and all forms of hate, which will be parked outside.

All ages are invited to bring their holiday spirit as we partner with Kind Kitchen to honor the Jewish value of Ha’achalat Re’evim (feeding the hungry) by preparing and packing festive Thanksgiving meals for those in need. Deliveries made on Friday, November 28 will be for Shabbat dinner.

Celebrate the Jewish value of G’milut Chasadim (acts of loving kindness) as you make holidays brighter for local families. In collaboration with Alpert Jewish Family Service, wrap presents, books and essentials to support its Mentoring 4 Kids (M4K) program. Plus, learn new gift-wrapping skills while enjoying a festive Hanukkah party. Volunteers are encouraged to bring new coloring books and crayons to donate. Space is limited.
Volunteers must be at least 16 years old.

This holiday season, honor the Jewish value of Ba’al Taschit (do not destroy) by donating new or gently used bikes, trikes, scooters, skateboards and bike locks. They’ll be refurbished by the nonprofit, Jack the Bike Man, and given to students, immigrant families and individuals in need, turning a simple bike into a gift of freedom, dignity and opportunity.

Kind Kitchen also invites you to join them for a special Hanukkah meal packing party on Wednesday, December 17, with a celebration that will include a latke bar and holiday fun.

 

Paddleboard Waterway Clean-Up

Help keep our waterways beautiful as we partner with Blueline Surf & Paddle Co. to honor the Jewish value of Shmirat HaTeva (protecting nature) Enjoy a morning outdoors to help keep our waterways clean. Enjoy an impactful morning on the water collecting litter on paddleboards with cleanup gear provided by 4Ocean. Space is limited. Participants should be comfortable in the water, and bring swimwear, a hat, sunglasses, a water bottle and a wet bag for belongings.
Volunteers must be at least 18 years old.

 

Read to Children
Friday, November 14 and Friday, December 12
Schools throughout Palm Beach County

Honor the Jewish value V’shinantam L’vanecha (and you shall teach your children) by spending a morning sharing the magic of books by reading to children in a local Palm Beach County school. In a new partnership with Literacy Coalition of Palm Beach County’s Read With Me! program, volunteers will read in small groups in kindergarten classrooms at one of nine area schools.
Volunteers must be at least 18 years old.

Bake & Spread Holiday Cheer

Live out the Jewish value of Kehillah (community) by baking your favorite sweet treats at home and delivering them to first responders, hospital employees and people working during Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. Animal lover? Bake some doggie treats and drop them off at a local shelter to spread joy to our furry friends, too.

Celebrate the Jewish value of Rachmanut (compassion) by creating hand-knitted or crocheted blankets. Each stitch you make will bring comfort, warmth and a sense of care to mothers and their newborns in our community during this special time.

 

Decorate Kindness Cards
Spread holiday cheer this season by decorating cheerful, hand-illustrated cards created by young local artist and Kohl JVC volunteer, Ayel Morgenstern of The HeARTful Hub. Cards are sure to bring smiles to seniors, children, families in need, and even IDF soldiers, as we honor the Jewish value of Chesed (kindness).

Demonstrate the Jewish value of Ha’achalat Re’evim (feeding the hungry) by assembling grab-and-go packs filled with healthy breakfast items for children and families in need.

Place three to five non-perishable items, including oatmeal packets, cereal boxes and granola bars, in a brown paper bag and tuck in an encouraging note to brighten someone’s day.
