Education in the greater Palm Beaches can be found in a variety of institutions.

Jewish learning happens in many different ways. Our community offers multiple entry points to engage with Jewish life and education. Our community is made up of 8 Jewish preschools, 12 congregational schools, a school for special needs students, one day school (with a high school being planned), and day camp options. The lists below provide contact information, and includes national camping programs as well as information for receiving financial assistance to attend camps.

The Yad Hebrew School for Students with Differing Abilities

Children with special needs who are aged five and older participate in the Yad program. Classes are held at Temple Beth Torah of Wellington from 9 a.m – 12 p.m. on most Sunday mornings during the school year. The goal of the Yad Hebrew School is to bring to our children the richness of their Jewish heritage and to foster pride and self-assurance in their identity as valued members of the Jewish community. Regardless of a child’s learning ability, we believe all Jewish children deserve open gateways for participation in Jewish learning experiences and important Jewish rites of passage – such as Bar or Bat Mitzvah.

The Yad Hebrew School is designed to serve children who primarily attend self-contained classes in public or non-public special education facilities and who, because of their special needs, often find it difficult to learn effectively in a traditional Hebrew school environment.

Children in the Yad Hebrew School have varying disabilities that include autism spectrum disorder (ASD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), communication disorders, Down Syndrome and developmental disabilities.

It is staffed by dedicated, creative teachers who bring life experience and a wealth of formal training in Jewish education to the classroom.  They are ably assisted by responsible volunteers who are intuitive, enthusiastic and creative. Between staff and volunteers, we provide almost a 1:1 student-teacher ratio.

The Yad Hebrew School curriculum consists of learning about holidays, Jewish living, prayers, mitzvot, blessings, and Hebrew.  Classes are taught using various techniques including visual and tactile aids – such as iPads, music, movement, and art.

A Jewish day camp or overnight camp weaves Jewish values, culture and traditions into the fabric of a summertime experience, helping campers connect to their own identities and to the larger Jewish community. Staff members use experiential learning to reveal what makes Jewish religion and culture unique in today’s world. At camp, Jewish and Israeli cultures are celebrated through song, food, art and dance.
