Educators Workshop: Coping with our New Reality
Thursday, August 6 at 7 p.m.
Brought to you by Federation Friedman Commission for Jewish Education (CJE)
For early childhood and synagogue school educators. In this session led by Alpert JFS’s Dr. Elaine Rotenberg and Dr. Iris Kiner, discuss various factors that have contributed to the challenges educators find themselves living in during the pandemic. Take an insightful look at a specific coping tool called “BASICPh.” Dr. Kiner and Dr. Rotenberg will also present additional coping strategies and skills to better help students and families re-enter a learning environment in a healthy frame of mind.

Philadelphia-based author Amy Sue Nathan will discuss her recently released novel, The Last Bathing Beauty. Called a “pitch-perfect summer read,” the novel tells the heartfelt story of a former beauty queen who faces secrets of her past. Shifting between 1951 and 2017, The Last Bathing Beauty is about fate, choices and second chances. Amy has also written The Glass Wives, The Good Neighbor and Left to Chance, and she is currently working on her fifth novel.

Confronting Hate and Extremism in Online Gaming and Social Media

The latest event of the virtual series Empowering Our Children. A recent ADL study on online gaming found that 74% of online players have experienced some form of harassment and 64% of those players have expressed this harassment to be severe and sustained. Experts will provide you with tools and resources to work with your children so they feel empowered and educated during their online play and social interactions. Featuring Daniel Kelley, Associate Director, ADL Center for Technology and Society; and Lauren Krapf, ADL National Policy Counsel, who will provide you with tools and resources to build safe and positive spaces for your children’s online play and social interactions.
